We are back for the post Lunch session. Both the umpires walk out to the field. They are followed by the players of Bangladesh. Tom Blundell will join Tom Latham in the middle. Shoriful Islam to resume his over.
... Day 2, Session 2 ...
The day though began with Conway’s ton and when he and Latham were batting, it seemed like the story of Day 1 is going to be repeated. However, a good piece of work in the field saw that partnership being broken. Taylor and Latham then put on another decent stand. Latham got up his double ton. Once Taylor fell though, Bangladesh have managed to slow the run rate and also gotten Daryl Mitchell and Henry Nicholls cheaply. They would want to continue this good work after the break. New Zealand on the other hand will probably up the ante and try and reach to that 500-run mark as soon as possible. A good session to cricket awaits. Do join us for the second session at 6:10 am IST (12:40 am GMT).
A decent session for Bangladesh compared to the ones yesterday! They are still well behind in the game but will be pleased with how they have fought on Day 2. Four wickets is what they managed and could have had 5, had Taskin Ahmed held onto the chance given by Latham.
OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Bangladesh end the session on a high! Shoriful Islam's hard work has been rewarded with a wicket. A length ball, outside off. Daryl Mitchell has a poke away from the body but the ball just nips slightly away and takes the outside edge to the keeper. Not sure why Daryl Mitchell took it upstairs as there was a noise. DRINKS! New Zealand continue to strengthen their grip on this game! The day began with Conway getting to his ton. He though soon was dismissed courtesy some brilliance in the field by Mehidy Hasan. Latham though continued along with Taylor. The skipper got his double ton up and the two have taken New Zealand's score to 400. More of the same is what the Kiwis would want. Bangladesh on the other hand, have been a lot better with their lines and lengths this morning but there is not a lot to show in the wicket column for the bowlers. They would hope this break works in their favor.

Third leave in a row as Taskin bowls it outside off again.

FOUR! Classy! What a shot to get your double ton up! In front of his home crowd, the skipper has led from the front. Everyone here is on their feet applauding what has been a fine, fine effort. OUT! RUN OUT! Conway is short and this is probably the kind of spark Bangladesh needed. These two just did not look like getting out and a run out was probably the only way this partnership could have been broken. A slight hesitation costs Conway and ends a brilliant knock from him. On off, Latham looks to drop and run. There is a small hesitation but they go for it. Mehidy Hasan gets to the all, picks it up and with a dive forward, hits the stumps at the striker's end. FOUR! 100 for Devon Conway! His third in Tests and he just continues to score big runs. A special knock from a very solid player. An innings full of class and composure. A gift is what he gets to reach the milestone. Full and on the pads, he works it fine and this one races away to the fence. Now he will be eyeing to make this a big one.
We are all set for the action to begin! Tom Latham and Devon Conway walk out to resume their innings. Devon Conway is a run away from a ton. He will take strike and will be facing Ebadot Hossain. Here we go...
The visitors however, will be quite demoralised. They might have come into this game with tremendous confidence but the way the Kiwis batted would have surely deflated the morale of the visiting side. After electing to bowl, 349 runs is not what you would want to be conceding in a day and that too picking just the one wicket. They need to remember the fact though that they did trigger a collapse in the first innings of the first game. Can they do so again? They will have to or they’ll have close to 0 percent chances of winning this game. An important first session awaits.
A stellar show with the bat by the New Zealand skipper and Devon Conway has put the Kiwis in an extremely commanding position. They have a lot of time in their hand and will be looking for a massive first innings score. Are we going to see yet another superb batting display from the Kiwis or do Bangladesh have a fight back in store?
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
Bangladesh will probably be rueing the fact that they elected to bowl. They were fooled by the amount of grass on the wicket but there was hardly any assistance from the surface. Also, the bowling wasn’t all that great. They failed to hit the right lines and lengths on regular occasions and due to that, they are well behind in the game. Getting back into this game is going to be a big task. They need wickets and in heaps on Day 2 and it will be interesting to see if they do manage to fight back. Do join us for Day 2 on Monday, 10th January at 3:30 am IST (10 pm GMT, previous day). Till then, you can catch the action of the Ashes as England are fighting hard to salvage a draw. Till then, Cheers!
Tom Latham was the highlight but Devon Conway too played a delightful knock. The platform though was set by the opening stand as they added 148. Will Young also looked all set for a big score but he fell. Conway and Latham then batted, batted and batted. The two have built a 200-run stand. Latham is eyeing a double ton whereas Conway is one short of his hundred. Also, the rate New Zealand have scored at is quite incredible and they have enough time now to post a huge total and that is what they’ll be eyeing.
A day thoroughly dominated by the Kiwis! Tom Latham wanted to make a statement after their surprise loss in the last game and he has led from the front. A scintillating knock has seen his side on course to bat the visitors out of the game.

Latham especially who has managed to score quickly. Both are set now and will be eying big scores. Can they continue the dominance after the break? We will find out. Do join us at 6:10 am IST (12:40 am GMT).
To be honest, Bangladesh just weren’t at their best with the ball. They were way too wide outside off and did not make the most of the new ball. Whenever they hit the right areas, they did manage to cause problems but they weren’t consistent enough. Also, they were a tad unlucky too but overall, Haque will be disappointed with the effort of the bowlers.
End of an excellent session for the hosts and Latham will be thinking, it wasn’t that bad a toss to lose. Haque on the other hand, maybe regretting his decision to bowl first already. The visitors have a lot of thinking to do in the break.

DRINKS! A good hour of play for the Kiwis! Their openers have began well and now will want to capitalse on the hard work done by them so far. The wicket seems a really good one and it is now about cashing in for the Kiwi batters. Bangladesh need to bowl a lot more on the stumps, Ebadot Hossain, in the two overs he has bowled has been really good and the others too have to bowl similar lines and lengths to what he has done. Young now is underway! On the pads, this is worked down to fine leg for one.
Good carry there! Better from Taskin. A lot closer this time to the off pole, still not enough to make the batter play. He gets it to bounce and zip through nicely.
Latham and the Kiwis are underway! Shorter and on off, Latham pushes it towards cover and gets to the other end.
And again, keeps it outside off, Latham does not fiddle with it. No movement on the first two deliveries.
Starts off with a full one, looking for some swing but there ain't any. Left alone as it is outside off.
We are moments away from the first ball now! First though it is time for the National Anthems! First it is Bangladesh's turn and then the Kiwis. We are done with the Anthems and now the Bangladesh players make their way out to the middle. They are followed by the two, New Zealand openers, Tom Latham and Will Young. Taskin Ahmed has the new ball in hand. Here we go... HOLD ON! Bangladesh have some issue with the ball, maybe it is not the ball they had picked. Out comes the box, the right one has been picked now and we are ready to go.
So both sides make changes! Daryl Mitchell come in for Rachin Ravindra! Bangladesh on the other hand, make two as they get in Naim and Hasan for Joy and Rahim.

TOSS - Bangladesh have won the toss and have OPTED TO FIELD!
The Kiwis, well, despite the loss are overwhelming favourites. Also, this is Ross Taylor’s last game in this format for them so they would love to give him a fitting end. The last game was surely a wake up call for them and knowing this New Zealand side, they will be wanting to hit back hard. They need a win and nothing else will do. Will they level the series? We will find out. Welcome to the coverage of Day 1 of the second Test.
If you ever thought Bangladesh would go lead the series at the start of the second Test, you should be buying yourself a lottery ticket. What a win and what a performance that was in the first game. The odds were heavily stacked against them but they ended up doing what they never managed to do before. BEAT THE KIWIS IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD! Now though they can look at the bigger picture and that is win a Test series here. A feat which many teams have struggled to do in recent times but Bangladesh have a chance, they just need to avoid a loss, a lot easier to be said than done. They have the momentum though and will be rearing in confidence. Can they upset the odds twice in a row?
