Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill is a talented top-order batter who hails from Punjab. He grew up playing cricket in his farm, and later, his father shifted his base to Mohali and made Gill join the Punjab Cricket Association. Shubman started his professional cricket expedition playing for Punjab at the Under-16 level.
Shubman Gill made his List A debut for Punjab in 2017, and later that same year, he went to play the Ranji Trophy. On his first-class debut, he scored a fine knock of 63 and went on to score his maiden ton in the next game. His impressive show at the Under-16 level and at the senior domestic level helped him in gaining a spot in India's U-19 team.
Gill stole the headlines for the first time after scoring 372 runs at an average of 124 at the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, and he was one of the main architects that helped India lift the trophy. All his noteworthy performances at the youth level earned him his first Indian Premier League contract when he was picked up by Kolkata for the 2018 season. After having four successful seasons with the franchise, ahead of the mega auction in 2022, Gill left Kolkata and was bought by Gujarat for a hefty amount.
In 2019, Gill was named in the 50-over squad for India's tour to New Zealand, and he went on to make his ODI debut in the fourth ODI. In December 2020, Gill received his Test cap against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and in the fourth Test, he scored a sublime 91 at the Gabba, helping India win the Test and eventually win the historic Test series Down Under.
Gill's career grew by leaps and bounds in the coming years and he successfully established himself as an all-format player. After Hardik Pandya's exit from Gujarat before the 2024 Indian Premier League season, Shubman Gill was made the captain of the team.
