Usama Mir
Usama Mir is a Pakistani leg-spinner who has built a reputation as a tall, attacking wicket-taker across domestic and franchise cricket. Born on December 23, 1995, in Sialkot, Mir is a right-arm leg-break bowler who uses his height to extract bounce from the surface and possesses a deceptive googly. His ability to attack in the middle overs, combined with his handy lower-order batting, has made him a valuable all-round option in T20 cricket.
Mir began his domestic career with Khan Research Laboratories, making his T20 debut in 2013. He made his First-Class debut in 2014 and his List A debut in 2015, going on to represent several domestic sides including Sialkot Stallions, Sui Southern Gas Corporation, Balochistan, Sindh, Central Punjab and Southern Punjab. One of his early career highlights came at the 2017 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, where he finished as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets for Pakistan U23.
His performances in domestic cricket earned him opportunities in the Pakistan Super League, where he first featured for Karachi Kings and later became an important part of the Multan Sultans setup. Mir's PSL career reached a new high in 2024, when he produced a standout campaign for the Sultans, taking 24 wickets in 12 matches and finishing as the tournament's leading wicket-taker. The season before, he picked up 18 wickets and led the Sultans to a title. His performances helped establish him as one of Pakistan's most effective leg-spinners in franchise cricket and played a major role in his elevation to the national side.
Mir made his international debut in 2023, playing his first ODI against New Zealand in Karachi and claiming Kane Williamson as his maiden international wicket. He was subsequently selected in Pakistan's squad for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. During the tournament, he made history by becoming the first concussion substitute to play in a men's Cricket World Cup, replacing Shadab Khan against South Africa. He later made his T20I debut against New Zealand in 2024. However, his international career has since been put on hold. In 2025, Mir signed a three-year T20 contract with Worcestershire, with the deal set to see him qualify as a local player in England from 2027 due to residency regulations. The move effectively placed his Pakistan international career on ice as he focuses on establishing himself in the English domestic game and continuing his franchise career.
Away from Pakistan, Mir has developed an extensive franchise career. He has played in the Bangladesh Premier League, representing sides including Dhaka Dynamites and Rajshahi Kings, while also featuring for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. He has also represented Toronto Nationals in the Global T20 Canada and played for Manchester Originals in The Hundred. His international franchise experience has allowed him to bowl in a variety of conditions and against some of the world's leading T20 batters.
