Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel, commonly known as Bhupendrabhai Patel, is the current Chief Minister of Gujarat. Patel was designated as the CM on September 13, 2021, after Vijay Rupani tendered his resignation. He won the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections from the Ghatlodia constituency, Ahmedabad, defeating Congress candidate Shashikant Patel by 1,17,750 votes, the highest margin in the 2017 polls. Before this, he was the president of Memnagar Municipality, Ahmedabad, and held the position of standing committee chairman of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority. Patel belongs to the Kadva sub-caste of the Patidar community and has a diploma in civil engineering. Bhupendrabhai, a considered protege of the former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel, began his political career in 1995. He is taking on Congress candidate Amee Yajnik and AAP's Vijay Patel from Ghatlodia this time.
