Born on March 16, 1955, Kunvarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya has been an MLA from the Jasdan constituency six times (1995, 1998, 2002, 2007, 2017 and 2018 bypoll) and served as an MP once from the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat between 2009 and 2014 representing the Congress party. However, he was defeated by BJP's Mohanbhai Kundariya in 2014 from Rajkot. He defected to the BJP in 2018 and won a bypoll. He became the Minister of Water Supply, Animal Husbandry and Rural Housing in Gujarat during the Vijay Rupani government. He belongs to the Koli caste of Gujarat and keeps a firm ground in the Rajkot district. During the reshuffle in the government, Bavaliya was excluded from the Bhupendrabhai Patel Cabinet. He has been again fielded by the BJP against Congress party's Bholabhai Bhikabhai Gohil and AAP candidate Tejas Bhikhabhai Gajipara from the Jasdan constituency.
