Ramanlal Vora, son of Indian independence activist Ishwarlal Vora, held the Social Justice and Empowerment portfolio in the Anandiben Patel Cabinet before resigning and assuming the post of Speaker in 2016. He remained the Speaker till 2018. He is a prominent BJP Dalit leader and won five consecutive elections since 1995 from Idar. In all of his terms, he remained a minister. In 2017, Vora was not given a ticket from Idar and contested from Dasada. However, Congress candidate Naushadji Bhalajibhai Solanki defeated Vora by over 3,500 votes. Vora is again contesting from Idar this time and has been pitted against the Congress party's Ramabhai Virchandbhai Solanki and AAP's Jayantibhai Parnami.
