Commentary
We are back for the all-important run chase. The umpires are back out in the middle and the players of Pakistan can be seen in a huddle before taking to the field. The duo of Ben Duckett and Tom Banton are all set to open the innings for England. Shaheen Afridi will take the new ball himself and is raring to go. Let's play...
... The Run Chase ...
Late fireworks push Pakistan past 300 - Pakistan finished with a bang in the final ten overs as Arafat Minhas and Faheem Ashraf hammered a rapid 72-run stand. Despite Sonny Baker picking up late wickets to finish with 3 for 65, quick boundaries from Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf carried Pakistan to a commanding 302 for 9. From losing a wicket on the very first delivery to crossing the 300-mark, Pakistan have pulled off a thrilling recovery, leaving England with a massive chase ahead!
Hasan Nawaz turns the tide - Walking in under huge pressure, Hasan Nawaz flipped the script with a fearless counterattack. He smashed four massive sixes on his way to a brilliant 79 off 74 balls, pulling the momentum right back in Pakistan's favor. Alongside Arafat Minhas, he built a vital 78-run partnership before an economical Jamie Overton (1 for 38) finally bowled him with the score at 211 for 6.
England's early strikes rock Pakistan - England got off to a dream start in Rawalpindi after choosing to bowl first. Gus Atkinson dismissed Fakhar Zaman for a golden duck on the very first ball, and Sonny Baker quickly removed Saim Ayub for 8. Babar Azam and Saad Baig tried to steady the innings, but England kept striking at crucial moments. Spinners Will Jacks and Adil Rashid chipped in, before Atkinson returned to bounce out Baig and leave Pakistan struggling at 133 for 5.

Commentary
Time to move on - The first two matches of this ODI tri-series have gone the way of the hosts, who are shaping up to be a well-rounded unit. Pakistan virtually have one leg in the final after this win against England, who now go on to face Sri Lanka in a crucial encounter, and whichever team loses that game will be in heaps of trouble. The third match of this series, and the last one in Rawalpindi, will be played between England and Sri Lanka on Thursday, October 22, and will begin at 8 am GMT. However, as usual, you can join us much earlier for the build-up as well. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Player of the Match - No prizes for guessing, and Arafat Minhas is given the accolade for his stellar all-round showing. He scored a crucial 59 (58 balls), then took 6/40, also managing a late run-out.
The same old story for England - England have been victims of their own doing off late in One Day Internationals, and this game was no different. After having the opposition at 81/4, they allowed the Pakistan middle order to dictate terms and ended up conceding 20-30 runs more than they should have. With the bat, Ben Duckett and Tom Banton provided the perfect platform with a quick 91-run stand, but it all went downhill once the first wicket fell. Duckett fell in the 40s, and Banton also got out after notching up his fifty. Joe Root and Sam Curran got starts but also fell in quick succession, leaving Will Jacks and the lower order with a lot to do. Eventually, they just kept losing wickets in a heap and suffered a hefty defeat.
The Arafat Minhas show - A day to remember for the lanky all-rounder, and he now becomes only the third Pakistani to score a fifty and take a five-wicket haul in an ODI game. He really stood up to the challenge when the chips were down with the bat and with the ball, he was simply outstanding, going on to pick up 6 wickets and even racking up a run-out, which sealed the win for his side. Apart from Arafat Minhas, Pakistan had plenty of other individuals who did a stellar job. Hasan Nawaz was one such player, who gave the impetus his team needed with the bat, and also Faheem Ashraf, whose cameo propelled Pakistan to 302. With the ball, Haris Rauf was crucial as he picked up a couple of vital wickets, and then Naseem Shah came back with fire in his second spell as well.
Pakistan make it two out of two - What a start to the tri-series for the hosts, and Pakistan have brushed aside both Sri Lanka and England to assert their dominance at the top of the table. It was a clinical performance from Pakistan, especially in the way they bounced back in both innings after not getting an ideal start. As for England, this loss will hurt as they have let themselves down with both bat and ball, and will look to bounce back quickly.
OUT! ATKINSON IS RUN OUT! Arafat Minhas can do no wrong today, and he seals a dominant 87-run win for Pakistan in style. Another one that is drifted in, full and on the legs. Sonny Baker clips it away through mid-wicket for a single, and the batters then look for the second as well. Baker sends his partner back, but by then Gus Atkinson is almost back at the non-striker's end. Ghazi Ghori fires in a wide throw at the wrong end, and the bowler fails to collect cleanly. However, Minhas recovers well and fires in a direct hit at the keeper's end. Atkinson puts in a late dive but is well short, and England are bowled out for 215.
Is that a run-out? Yes, indeed. Replays confirm it and Gus Atkinson is well short of his crease here.
No hat-trick! Fullish length, drifted in towards middle and leg. Sonny Baker keeps the front leg out of the way and smothers it away to mid on.
Sonny Baker is the last batter in for England, and he will also face the hat-trick ball.
OUT! LBW! Arafat Minhas bowls it nice and full on off, getting the ball to angle back in with the arm. Adil Rashid puts a stride forward to block, but the ball beats the inside edge and thuds into the front pad. There is a huge appeal, and the on-field umpire gives it out. Looks dead straight, but Adil Rashid has reviewed it. The third umpire has a look at it and ascertains that there's no spike off the bat, and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. The on-field decision stands, and Minhas now has 6 wickets to his name and has a chance to seal the win with a hat-trick as well. Can he do it?
Adil Rashid walks out to bat next.
OUT! CAUGHT! That should be that, and it's also a five-wicket haul for Arafat Minhas, his 2nd one already in ODIs. Minhas pulls the length back, bowling it a touch short on off. Will Jacks rocks back to pull but snatches at it and ends up miscuing it flat towards short mid-wicket. Shaheen Afridi takes a rather comfortable catch and Minhas has now struck in three consecutive overs. England's last recognized batter is also out and they are 214/8.

A straight yorker and Afridi nails it as well. Atkinson just about manages to dig it out back past the non-striker.

Gus Atkinson is the next batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT! It's been Arafat Minhas's day, and he now has a four-fer as well. This is floated up at the stumps, drifting it in. Jamie Overton dances down the track, doesn't quite reach the pitch of the ball and goes through with the lofted shot. The ball sails down to long on, where Hasan Nawaz takes it on his knees and Minhas gets wickets in back-to-back overs, reducing England to 205/7 now. Pakistan just 3 wickets away now.
Flighted up around off, drifting in. Overton smothers it back to the bowler.
Dragged length outside off, hit off the back foot and hit hard, to the right of deep point for just a single.

The next batter is Jamie Overton.
OUT! LBW! Another bowling change, and another immediate wicket for Pakistan. Arafat Minhas bowls this one fuller and straight, sliding it in with the arm. Cox gets forward and looks to play with a vertical bat, but across the line and the ball beats the inside edge and strikes him on the back leg. There's a prolonged appeal for LBW, and eventually the umpire's finger does go up. Jordan Cox has a quick chat with Will Jacks and takes the review. The third umpire checks UltraEdge first and there's nothing on it, and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. It stays Out, and England are now 197/6.
Floated up, full and wide outside off. Jacks shows quick hands as hs hammers it away through the off side, but just for a single down to deep point.
Quicker and flatter around off, eased off the back foot and square through the off side for a single.
SIX! Wow, what timing! Dragged length on off, holds a bit in the deck. Jordan Cox swivels back and checks the pull, swatting it over cow corner for a six.
Bowled in and around off stump, smacked away to sweeper cover for a single.

SIX! Banged in short and at the batter, Will Jacks gets into a great position and hooks it over deep backward square leg for a biggie. Top shot.
An appeal from the bowler for caught behind, but nobody else seems certain. Jacks is a bit surprised that it isn't called a wide either. Shorter one angling down leg, Jacks looks to pull but misses.
Excellent fielding yet again. Pitched full and straight, driven with a straight bat and well to the left of mid on. Shaheen Afridi scampers across and dives in to make a stop, keeping it down to a single.

Hard length over middle, Jacks tentatively plays at it, fending it to the leg side. Just one run and a big wicket off it.
Really well bowled. A well-directed bumper, right at the batter, and Jacks has to duck for cover pretty quickly.
A big appeal for LBW, but it is turned down. Another one that stayed low, but is it sliding down leg? We shall find out soon because Shaheen Afridi has taken the review. Haris Rauf peppers the hard length and angles the ball well into the batter. Will Jacks sets up to pull but the ball stays low and goes well under the bat, hitting Jacks on the thigh pad. There's nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows that it is going high and wide of leg stump. Not Out.
DRINKS! Well, well. What a contrast this has been to the first innings. Pakistan started poorly but were strong in the middle phase with the bat, whereas England are throwing away a stellar start and have now lost half their side. Pakistan have done really well with the ball, especially Arafat Minhas and are in command at the moment. With 126 more needed off 111 balls, a lot hinges on this next batting pairing for England. Here's Will Jacks to join Jordan Cox out there in the middle.
OUT! CAUGHT! Another bowling change that works out perfectly for Pakistan. Haris Rauf comes around the wicket, hits a shorter length and angles it well into the body. Sam Curran sets up to pull but checks the shot as he isn't sure of the length, and ends up swivel-pulling it straight down the throat of the man at deep backward square leg. The substitute fielder, Ghazi Ghori makes no mistake and England are now 177/5, losing both set batters in quick succession.
Full-pitched delivery on off, quicker too. Curran jams it across to mid-wicket.

OUT! BOWLED! That's gone through, and what an inspired bowling change this has turned out to be. Naseem Shah comes wider on the crease and hits a good length, darting the ball back in from outside off. This one skids through and stays a bit low, and Joe Root is also caught on the crease. Root tries to jam the back down but the ball brushes the cue end of the bat and shatters into the stumps. All of Root's hard work has come undone and Shah is absolutely pumped. England are 165/4 after 28.5 overs, chasing 303.
Pitched full and around off, looking for some reverse swing, and he does get a hint of tail back in. Root gets halfway forward and drives it back to the bowler.
Good length in the channel, Curran runs it off the face of his bat, down to deep third and turns the strike over.
Beaten! Good-length delivery, darting it well across the left-hander. Curran has a waft outside his off stump and gets beaten on the outside edge.

OUT! TAKEN! A perfect start for England and Fakhar Zaman looks shocked. Gus Atkinson goes full and on middle and leg. Fakhar looks to flick it but the ball slightly hits the upper part of his bat. The ball carries towards short mid-wicket where Joe Root bends low and takes a sharp catch just inches above the ground. The umpire checks and confirms that it was a clean catch. Fakhar Zaman walks back for a golden duck. What a start for England.
Right then, we are done with the prematch formalities. England players spread out in the middle and take their respective field positions. Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub open up for Pakistan. Gus Atkinson has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
Time for the National Anthems - We are all set for the game to begin. Both sides stride out in the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be England's first, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan.
Pakistan (Unchanged Playing XI) - Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Saad Baig (WK), Salman Agha, Hasan Nawaz, Arafat Minhas, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi (C), Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf.
England (Playing XI) - Ben Duckett, Tom Banton, Joe Root, Harry Brook (C), Jordan Cox (WK), Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, Sonny Baker.
TOSS - England have won the toss and will BOWL first.
The reverse swing factor - The Rawalpindi pitch offers early seam movement before flattening out for the batters, with reverse swing playing a massive role in the final 16 overs under the single-ball rule. While Shadab Khan and Sufyan Moqim remain unwell for Pakistan, England could hand an ODI debut to leg-spinner Mason Crane or uncapped James Coles. Will Pakistan's pacers dominate again, or can England flip the script? Don't go anywhere, the toss is coming up next!
New-look England ready to fire - Without Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, a fresh England squad will draw confidence from their recent home ODI series win against Sri Lanka. Red-hot batter Tom Banton, Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and skipper Brook must counter Pakistan's pace early on. The return of Sam Curran and Adil Rashid from injury is a massive boost, while pacers Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton will be eager to execute the plans of temporary coach David Saker.
Pakistan eyeing top-order stability - Despite winning on Sunday, Pakistan have plenty to improve. Openers Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman must survive the new ball, and batters like Babar Azam and Saad Baig need to convert their starts to support centurion Salman Ali Agha. With the ball, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf were lethal under lights, but they must tighten up the middle overs to prevent another big recovery partnership from the opposition.
Hello and welcome to Rawalpindi! We are in from the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for the second match of the 2026 ODI Tri-Series between Pakistan and England. Pakistan hold early points after a 37-run win over Sri Lanka in the opener. Today, the hosts look to build momentum, while Harry Brook's England aim to start their tour with a win and erase the memories of their winless 2025 Champions Trophy run here.
... MATCH DAY ...
Game 2 - Pakistan and England are set to face off in Match 2 of the 2026 ODI Tri-Series in Pakistan in a contest that promises a compelling battle between two sides with contrasting approaches to one-day cricket. Pakistan will look to make the most of their familiarity with home conditions, while England will aim to impose their aggressive style through attacking batting, disciplined bowling and adaptable tactics. With valuable momentum and an early opportunity to establish themselves in the competition at stake, this fixture could prove important in shaping the direction of the tri-series. Both teams possess the depth and individual quality to influence the match in several phases. Pakistan's prospects will depend on their ability to combine top-order stability with middle-order acceleration, while England will look to build a strong platform before unleashing their power hitters. The contest between Pakistan's bowling attack and England's aggressive batting could be one of the defining features of the encounter. Pakistan's positive start - Pakistan enter the contest after opening their campaign with a 37-run victory over Sri Lanka, giving Shaheen Afridi's side an early boost. Their next challenge is considerably different - England bring a batting lineup capable of putting sustained pressure on the opposition, and Pakistan will need to maintain their discipline across all three phases of the innings. The home side will also be keen to make the most of familiar conditions as they prepare for the challenges of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Babar Azam is likely to be central to Pakistan's batting plans. His ability to construct an innings, rotate the strike and accelerate once established makes him an important figure against England's attack. Pakistan will want him to provide stability rather than leave the middle order facing an early rebuilding exercise. His record against England in ODIs includes 854 runs at an average of 47.44, underlining his potential influence in this matchup. Pakistan's middle order, led by Salman Agha, must also demonstrate flexibility as they did in the first game against Sri Lanka. If the openers establish a strong foundation, the batters coming in next can look to increase the scoring rate through the middle overs. If early wickets fall, however, the priority will be to rebuild through partnerships and preserve wickets for the closing stages. Pakistan's ability to manage these contrasting situations could determine whether they post a competitive total. Pace trio looking good - With the ball, Shaheen Afridi will be expected to provide early breakthroughs. His left-arm angle and ability to generate movement make him a threat with the new ball, particularly if England's openers attempt to attack immediately. Haris Rauf offers pace and wicket-taking potential later in the innings, while Pakistan will need their supporting bowlers to maintain control when England's middle order looks to accelerate. Shaheen's positive ODI record against England gives Pakistan a useful reference point, although the conditions and current form will matter more on the day. In the first game, Naseem Shah actually bowled really well with the new ball, getting it to consistently seam under the lights, and Faheem Ashraf played a fabulous support role, picking up wickets at crucial phases in the game. England looking to make their mark - England arrive in Pakistan under the leadership of Harry Brook, with the tri-series providing an important opportunity to sharpen their 50-over cricket ahead of the next World Cup. The visitors have enjoyed encouraging results in recent ODI cricket, including a 2–1 series victory over Sri Lanka in September 2026. However, conditions in Pakistan will test their capacity to adapt, especially against a bowling attack that understands the local surfaces. Brook will be one of England's key players. His attacking instincts and ability to dominate the middle overs can shift the momentum quickly, but he will need to judge the conditions carefully. Pakistan are likely to target him with changes of pace, spin and variations in length, particularly if he arrives at the crease while the ball is still relatively new. His challenge will be to maintain England's scoring intent without exposing the middle order to unnecessary risks. Joe Root provides a contrasting but equally valuable option. His strength lies in controlling the tempo, finding gaps and building substantial innings. Against Pakistan, Root could be especially important if England lose an early wicket or need to recover from a difficult passage. His experience gives the visitors a reliable option for navigating the middle overs before the more aggressive batters take charge. England will, however, be without Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer for this tri-series. Buttler's absence removes a highly experienced middle-order and finishing option, while Archer's pace is unavailable to the bowling attack. This creates opportunities for players such as Tom Banton, Jordan Cox and Jamie Overton to take on greater responsibility. England have depth, but their replacements will need to deliver under the pressure of playing the hosts in front of a home crowd. Rawalpindi pitch in focus - Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is traditionally associated with a surface that can offer good value for shots, making it a venue where batters can score freely once they settle. For an ODI contest, the opening overs could offer seamers some movement, but batters who negotiate that period successfully may find opportunities to accelerate. The actual balance between bat and ball will depend on the prepared pitch, overhead conditions and how the surface behaves as the match progresses. Pakistan may look to exploit their familiarity with the ground, while England will need to adjust quickly to the pace and bounce available. The middle overs could become particularly important if spin begins to play a greater role. Rashid's control and variations will be a key consideration for England, while Pakistan will need their spin options to restrict scoring without allowing Root, Brook or Jacks to dictate the tempo. Form (Last 5 completed ODIs, recent first) - PAK - WWLWL | ENG - WLWWW. Predictions? This is a closely balanced contest between a Pakistan side with home advantage and an England team carrying considerable batting depth. Pakistan's opening victory over Sri Lanka gives them momentum, and their pace attack could be especially dangerous if the conditions provide early assistance. England, meanwhile, have the batting quality and ODI experience to challenge the hosts, with Brook and Root likely to be central to their chances. Pakistan's best route to victory is to strike early with the ball and give Babar Azam a strong platform to build from. England will want to survive the opening spell, keep wickets in hand and accelerate through the middle and final overs. Who are you backing for the win?

OUT!
