BJP | Hardwar Rural Lost
Swami Yatishwaranand, who was originally born in Haryana, is the sitting MLA from Haridwar Rural. He defeated senior Congress leader and former CM Harish Rawat in the 2017 state Assembly elections by more than 12,000 votes, winning the seat for the second time in a row. He left his village at an early age while also being an active member of the RSS, and eventually became a party worker for the BJP in Uttarakhand. In March 2021, the sanyasi was also appointed to the Uttarakhand Cabinet. During the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak, he received backlash after being captured on camera with his face mask dangling from his toe. When it comes to the development of sugarcane production and the upliftment of sugarcane farmers, Swami Yatishwaranand is a well-known face in Uttarakhand.
