Asha Kumari is an MLA from Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. She was born on September 23, 1955, to Devendra Kumari, a former minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, and Madneshwar Saran Singh Deo, retired chief secretary, of Madhya Pradesh. She completed her BA from MLB Girls College, Bhopal. She is one of the founding members of the NSUI. She has a president’s medal for being a Girls’ Guide and was elected president of the Bhopal University Students Union for the batch 1978-79. She has served in various capacities including secretary, AICC, general secretary, HPCC, incharge of the Congress Committee Punjab and Chandigarh. She was elected continuously as an MLA in 1993, 1998, and 2003 from the Banikhet constituency. In 2007, after delimitation, the Banikhet constituency was known as Dalhousie. She was again elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2017. At present, she is nominated as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and is a member of e-Governance-cum-General Purposes and Ethics Committee.
