Commentary
Welcome back for SRH's response with the bat. The two umpires and players have made their way out to the centre. It will be Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma to open the innings for the Sunrisers. Arshdeep Singh has the new ball in hand. Arshdeep to Head. A slip in place. Here we go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, Sunrisers Hyderabad have a humongous task ahead of them to register their second win of the season. The big names Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan haven't quite lit up with the bat, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to get back in the groove. Sure, it is a steep hill to climb, but we have seen wild things happen in the IPL. Stay tuned for the run chase.
Marcus Stoinis is in for a chat. He shares that it is nice to make a contribution and although it’s been a slow start to the season for him personally, it’s heartening to see the team doing well and that, he says, is the main thing. Mentions that there seemed to be a bit of spin and bounce early on, and it took him a few deliveries to get going. Reflecting on the total, he feels it’s a very good score but adds that much will depend on how they start with the ball in the Powerplay.
The Sunrisers though, did well to pick up wickets at regular intervals after that and reduced PBKS to 168/4 from 164/2, and managed to fight back well. It was Harshal Patel who snagged a superb 4-fer, but couldn't get the support in the backend. It was then the Marcus Stoinis show in the last over, who smashed four sixes against Mohammad Shami, and helped PBKS to smash 68 runs in the last 5 overs, with 27 coming in the last over itself. Mohammad Shami finished with his most expensive figures in IPL, conceding 75 runs in four overs, and went wicketless.
The centurion from the last game, Priyansh Arya, was the first one to depart after a quickfire cameo, alongside Prabhsimran Singh as they smashed 89 runs in the Powerplay. After that, skipper Shreyas Iyer took the mantle and put on an onslaught in the middle overs, forming a crucial 73-run stand with Nehal Wadhera, with the latter equally batting aggressively.
Aren't you all entertained? This Saturday has just gotten spicier as Punjab Kings post a mammoth 245 runs on the board, thanks to Marcus Stoinis' whirlwind batting in the last over. To be precise, 18 fours and 16 sixes struck in this innings, which has helped PBKS to register their highest score against SRH in the IPL.

SIX! Oh, my word! Four sixes in a row from Marcus Stoinis to finish the innings! Mohammad Shami changes his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket and looks to get the yorker in. Ends up serving a juicy full toss on the pads, Stoinis disdainfully parks it behind deep backward square leg. Shami ends with figures of 4-0-75-0. A night to forget for him. 27 runs off the final over and Punjab Kings finish with 245 on the board!
SIX! Hat-trick of sixes! The Aussie is on a rampage! Shami pulls the length back and bowls it on middle, Marcus Stoinis just waits on the back foot and picks the bones out of it. Smokes it over wide long on for a biggie.
SIX MORE! Two in two for Marcus Stoinis! Yorker gone wrong from Shami, low full toss, on the pads, Marcus gets low and picks it up nicely. Hits it towards deep mid-wicket for a flat six.
SIX! Clean as a whistle! With an upright seam, on middle, right in the slot, Marcus Stoinis does not miss out as he swings through the line and deposits it way back into the stands over long on.
In the air....but it falls safely! On a length, on middle, Marcus looks to go down the ground with a straight bat. Skies it straight up in the vacant mid-wicket region. Aniket Verma comes charging in off the ropes and even puts the dive in but the ball drops short. Two runs taken.
Spots Jansen backing away but Shami holds his line, on middle and leg, on a length, Marco looks to force it away on the off side but gets an inside edge to deep mid-wicket for one.
Mohammad Shami (3-0-48-0) to wrap the first innings.

FOUR! The over ends well from a PBKS perspective! Pat misses his yorker, something he cannot afford with mid off inside the circle. Allows Stoinis to get under it and Marcus lofts it over mid off for a boundary. Still only 8 runs off the over.
So far, so good from Cummins! Another yorker, at the stumps, Marco can only jam it out wide of cover for one more.
At 142.8 kph, on off, Stoinis firms the drive on the bounce to mid off and takes a single. Just 8 runs in the last 10 balls.
Nails the yorker, at the base of the off stump, Stoinis can only dig this one out back to the bowler.
Jansen will feel that he missed out there! Low full toss, sliding onto the pads, Marco misses out to put this one away. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes off the pads beside the pitch on the leg side.
Cummins goes very full, at 139.4 kph, on off, Marcus squeezes it out in front of extra cover for one.
Sunrisers Hyderabad use their impact player as Abhinav Manohar is swapped in for Eshan Malinga. Pat Cummins to bowl the penultimate over. He is 3-0-33-0 so far.

Low full toss, on middle and leg, Marco clips it off the pads to the left of the man at deep mid-wicket and comes sprinting back for the second run. Excellent over from Harshal. Two wickets and just the 5 runs off it.
Short and wide on off, cut away to deep point for one by Marcus.
Angling into the pads, on a length, Jansen wrists it to deep mid-wicket for a run.
Marco Jansen is in at number 8.
OUT! TAKEN! Double strike from Harshal Patel and the Sunrisers could not have asked for it to come at a better time! Patel goes into the wicket and takes pace off, on off, Shreyas tries to glide it over the in-field behind the wicket on the off side but there is no pace on the ball for him to clear the man at backward point. Lobs it tamely towards Travis Head on the edge of the ring and the Aussie takes an easy catch. Iyer falls for 82 (36). PBKS are now 206/6.
On a hard length, on off, pushed in front of extra cover for a single by Stoinis.
Marcus Stoinis is in at number 7.
OUT! TIMBER! Harshal Patel strikes on his return to the attack! Lands the dipping slower delivery, on off, Glenn Maxwell premeditates as he switches his stance and looks to play the reverse over short third. He is deceived by the slowness of the delivery and the ball dips on him. The ball hits the right pad on the full and deflects onto the off stump.
Harshal Patel (3-0-37-2) is back on to wrap his spell.
Commentary
Well then, this wraps up a Saturday evening that was filled with entertainment aplenty. Up next in the Indian Premier League is another treat of a double header coming your way. First up, Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium will witness the battle of the royals, as Rajasthan Royals host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). That game will be followed by Delhi Capitals hosting the Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) on Sunday, 13th April. But do make sure that you all join us an hour earlier for all the exciting pre-match build-up. Till then, take care and cheers!
The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium transformed into a batter's paradise on the night, bearing witness to an extraordinary 492 runs scored across both innings. The IPL has shattered the ceiling of what's possible in run chases. Year after year, this tournament pushes batting boundaries further, producing jaw-dropping pursuits that redefine cricket's mathematical limits. With this win, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have resurrected their campaign, as there will surely be a feel-good factor after their shaky start. They move up to the eighth position, while with this loss, the Punjab Kings stay sixth on the table.
Abhishek Sharma is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning century. He says that it’s never easy for any player to suddenly click after going through a lean patch. Gives a special mention to the captain and the management for creating a positive atmosphere in the camp. Mentions that the entire team was eagerly waiting for his parents to arrive and jokingly says that his parents seem to be lucky for the team as a whole. States that they knew that they just had to break through once, especially after going through a tough phase of losing four games. Adds that throughout that period, the mood in the camp remained upbeat, and the belief never wavered. Abhishek acknowledges the guidance of Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Yadav, who have both been in regular touch with him.
The captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, mentions it was a wicket where they didn't have too many options with the ball. Says that any over going for under 10 feels like a big win, especially on such high-scoring surfaces. Reflecting on the chase, he calls it phenomenal and admits that the team feels confident even when chasing targets around 250, which speaks volumes about their belief. He states that he's a big fan of Abhishek Sharma and the way he’s been striking the ball. Cummins also mentions that they’ve been really happy with how things have gone in training, and it was only a matter of executing it on the field. Lastly, he thanks the home crowd for their support.
It's time for the Presentation ceremony...
Travis Head of the Sunrisers Hyderabad is up for a chat now. He says it feels nice to get on the winner's list. He says they needed it in the competition as they are almost halfway through. He says he discussed with Abhishek about giving themselves some chance, taking some balls, staying a touch quiet at the early stages and then teeing off. Mentions that they picked their targets and got into a good rhythm. Feels it was all about doing the things that have worked for the team last season, encouraging each other, keeping a clear mind, and all those things helped them. Adds that there have been some big scores on this particular wicket where teams have crossed 200 many times and because of that, they knew they were always in the game. He says it's fun to get into a friendly banter with someone like Glenn Maxwell, and it wasn’t anything serious, he concludes.
The captain of the Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, shares that it was a fantastic total to post, especially with the ball holding up in the first innings. He mentions that when he and Nehal Wadhera were batting, a total of 230 felt like a winning score. However, he reckons that the dew made things significantly easier for the chasing side. That said, he gives credit where it’s due, acknowledging the outstanding effort from the SRH batters. Speaking about the Sunrisers' chase, he says Abhishek Sharma played an exceptional inning, even though he had a slice of luck with a couple of chances going down. Admits the bowling unit didn’t quite meet expectations and feels that the over-rotation and execution could have been sharper. States that losing Lockie Ferguson was a big blow to their plans, but understands that niggles are part and parcel of a fast bowler’s life. He says that there were opportunities to shift the momentum, particularly with those two missed chances, but the team couldn’t capitalize. Finally, he reflects on the match by saying there are decent learnings to take forward and that it’s now back to the drawing board as they look to bounce back stronger.
Earlier in the game, Punjab Kings got off to a rollicking start with the bat, as Prabhsimran Singh and young Priyansh Arya bossed up the Powerplay, on a pitch that was deemed as a batter's safe haven. Shreyas Iyer joined the blitz bandwagon, smashing every bowler, all around the park and notching a superb 82, with a decent contribution from Nehal Wadhera. However, they slowed down a bit in the middle with Harshal Patel taking a spectacular 4-fer. But, PBKS bounced back marvelously as Marcus Stoinis provided that much-needed propulsion in the last over, smashing four sixes and helping PBKS to post 245, which in the end, proved to be not enough to defend.
Their relentless assault left Punjab's bowlers looking utterly helpless as the run chase transformed into an exhibition of raw power hitting. From there, SRH held the bull by its horns. Abhishek Sharma did prove that he is a human, as he got out eventually, but not before putting the game well within reach of SRH. Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan then provided the finishing touches, completing the chase with 9 balls to spare.
Abhishek Sharma and Head showed no mercy, pulverizing even well-executed deliveries as they shifted into another gear with the bat. They manipulated the field at will, leaving PBKS completely defensive and scrambling for answers. With breathtaking fluency, Abhishek stormed to a spectacular century, shattering multiple records along the way, including establishing himself as the batter with the highest individual score for Sunrisers Hyderabad, leapfrogging David Warner, and also smashing the highest score individually by any Indian batter in the history of the IPL, overtaking KL Rahul's unbeaten 132, while also overtaking Quinton de Kock and becoming the third highest individual scorer in the IPL's history.
Abhishek raced to a blistering half-century off just 19 deliveries, firmly establishing Hyderabad's momentum in their ambitious chase of 246. Punjab's predicament worsened considerably when their ace fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was forced to leave the field with a quad injury, severely undermining their bowling attack at the most critical juncture of the contest. Head and Abhishek continued to go great guns. It was all about the air and the distance as SRH chewed up more than half of the runs inside the first ten overs itself.
The SRH opening duo unleashed absolute mayhem from ball one, with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head launching a ferocious assault on the PBKS bowling attack. Fortune favoured the bold, as Abhishek survived multiple chances at the start. First, Marcus Stoinis could not hang on to a tough chance in the second over, off Marco Jansen, when on 4 and then, the southpaw got a crucial letoff when Yash Thakur's overstepped delivery negated what was a simple catch for Shashank Singh. This was in the 4th over, with Sharma on 28. Making the most of his new lives, Abhishek continued to punish the Punjab bowlers mercilessly, as SRH rocketed to 83 without loss at the end of the Powerplay, nearly matching Punjab's 89/1 at the same stage.
IMPOSSIBLE has just been reduced to a mere word in cricket. We have just witnessed the run chase of the highest quality from Sunrisers Hyderabad, as they register the second-highest successful run chase in the history of the Indian Premier League. Sunrisers Hyderabad have just redefined what's possible in T20 cricket with a chase that bordered on the supernatural. What unfolded tonight was batting artistry of the highest caliber. One can only sympathize with Punjab Kings' shell-shocked bowling unit. Cricket, in all its unforgiving glory, revealed its most merciless face as even a towering total of 245 proved woefully inadequate against this rampaging SRH batting unit.
FOUR! Game, set and match! Heinrich Klaasen with the winning runs for SRH! This is a low full toss, outside off, Heinrich just opens the bat face and slices it to the left of backward point for a boundary to complete the chase. Who would have thought Sunrisers Hyderabad would wrap this up with such ease and with 9 balls to spare?
Lands it full, on off, Ishan firmly drives it with a straight bat to long off for a single.
Gets the yorker in, on off, Ishan takes it on the full and just nudges it to the left of long on for a couple of runs. SRH are now a hit away. They need 4 more runs.

Slanting away, fuller, Heinrich Klaasen walks across and gets low. Shapes up to go down town but gets an inside edge towards backward square leg for one.
A sharp and quick bumper from Singh, over middle, Heinrich Klaasen looks to pull it away but the ball climbs onto him and sails over the blade.

Dug in short, over off, Ishan sways away and lets the ball go through.
Ishan Kishan is in at number 4 with all 2s on the board.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! A scintillating innings from Abhishek Sharma comes to an end, and the crowd rises as one to applaud the young man. Arshdeep gives him a hug in appreciation. Angling in, full in length, on middle, Abhishek Sharma goes deep in the crease and tries to whip it away. Gets it only as far as deep mid-wicket where the substitute fielder, Praveen Dubey runs in off the ropes and snaffles it. Sharma departs for 141 (55).
FOUR! Streaky! Arshdeep nails the wide yorker on off, Sharma walks across and looks to use the pace by opening the bat's face. Gets an inside edge that sneaks past the stumps and beats the keeper to his right for a boundary. The 50-run stand also comes up between Abhishek and Klaasen.
Strategic Break. This game is well within the arrest of the Sunrisers Hyderabad as they need just 28 off the last four overs remaining. Abhishek Sharma continues on his rampage, dismantling any bowler coming his way, with marvellous conviction. He has toppled many records on the way, as he has now scored the highest individual score by any Indian batter in the history of the IPL, overtaking KL Rahul's unbeaten 132. He now stands fourth in the list of the top individual scores by any batter, in all of the IPL, just behind the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Quinton de Kock. He just needs 4 more runs to cross de Kock's individual score of 140. Back to the game. Here's Arshdeep Singh to bowl after the break.

100 FOR ABHISHEK SHARMA! A century of the highest quality! Sensational range-hitting and he has chosen the day when his team is desperate to get a win! Removes his helmet off, as the decibels rise to the highest at Uppal with the sea of Orange admiring this whirlwind knock. He soaks in all the applause from the crowd. Coming to the delivery, Chahal tosses it up, full and on off, turning in, Abhishek Sharma leans on the ball and turns it with the spin through the mid-wicket region for a single. He takes out a piece of paper from his pocket, with 'This one is for Orange Army' written on it.
Fuller length leg break on the leg stump, Klaasen pushes it into the leg side towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
Dragged length, around off, turning in, Abhishek Sharma knocks it off the back foot to long on for a single. He moves on to 99 off just 39 deliveries!
Fuller on middle-leg, Heinrich Klaasen flicks this towards deep square leg to get off the mark with a single.
Heinrich Klaasen is in at number 3 tonight.
OUT! STRAIGHT UP AND CAUGHT! Finally, some breather for Punjab Kings! Chahal smartly bowls it outside off, a slider on a fuller length, with a good bit of loop on it, luring the batter into the shot. Travis Head falls prey to it as he shapes to slog it over mid-wicket. Sits down on his knee and tries to drag it from outside off, but gets no timing whatsoever, and slices it into the night sky. Glenn Maxwell at long on settles under it and takes a fine, fine catch. The 171-run opening stand has been broken now.

Oh, he must have felt that he missed out on it! Wide of off, on a hard length. Abhishek Sharma moves outside off and tries to pin it between backward point and short third, but is a bit late to go through the shot and hits it off the thickish outside edge to the short third fielder.
FOUR! ABHISHEK IS TOYING WITH THE BOWLERS! Slower bouncer well outside off, Abhishek again walks across and pulls it over short fine leg for four.
FOUR! Up and over! Across off, short of a good length with a lack of pace. Abhishek Sharma shuffles across off and just swings wildly at it. Slices it over short third for a boundary.

STRATEGIC BREAK. This has been a solid response from the openers of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the pursuit of chasing 246. This rollicking start has helped to form a perfect foundation. Of course, Abhishek Sharma has ridden on his luck, surviving a couple of times, but has made the most out of it, by smashing fifty of his own. It all depends on how long these two bat for the home side. A couple of quick wickets will peg SRH back, but PBKS need those wickets right now to stop this runaway train.

And with Shreyas Iyer unbeaten and Glenn Maxwell at the other end, they would be aiming for a very strong finish in these last four overs. Into the blockhole, on off, Shreyas carves it out to the off side and runs a quick single.

Off the mark! Brilliant over from Eshan! No boundary conceded! Too full across off, carved through cover for a single.
Nehal Wadhera is in at number 4.
OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! The debutant, Eshan Malinga gets his first IPL wicket and is thrilled to bits. A crucial, crucial wicket for SRH! Eshan bowls it right into the surface, by taking all the pace off, around off. Prabhsimran Singh shapes to flat bat it over mid off, but is months early into the shot and ends up mistiming it off the toe-end of the bat, losing his shape a bit. Hits it flat and straight to Pat Cummins who snaffles it to his left. Punjab Kings are 91/2 as Prabhsimran Singh departs for a quickfire 42 (23).
An inswinging yorker, at 141.8 kph, on middle, Shreyas Iyer jams it out and squeezes it away to deep third for a single.
Good delivery! A slower one by the looks of it, at 111.6 kph, outside off and too full, Shreyas Iyer bends to carve it away but misses.
Speared in on the legs, Prabhsimran Singh gets a bit of an inside edge onto the pads, and the ball rolls in front of mid-wicket. They cross for a single.
Starts off with a loosener, but gets away with it. A full toss, on off, smashed away, but straight to the cover fielder.
Strategic Break. Well, it has been one-way traffic so far and as it was expected, runs are flowing at knots for the Punjab Kings on this belter of a wicket. Priyansh Arya, continuing his form from the previous game, launched an offensive while Prabhsimran Singh too, found his groove quite early. With three world-class bowlers, SRH have leaked runs at an alarming rate, and only Harshal Patel has got the lone success. A couple of quick wickets is what will give some respite to SRH. The debutant, Eshan Malinga is introduced into the attack now. He replaces Pat Cummins.

OUT! CAUGHT! Harshal Patel has done the trick for his team and gets the huge wicket of Priyansh Arya. Pace-off from Patel, bowling it a bit into the pitch and angling it well across off. Priyansh Arya shuffles a bit across the off stump and tries to fetch and pull across the line. The ball ends up being sliced up high and just beyond the mid-wicket region. Nitish Kumar Reddy backtracks and takes a fine tumbling reverse-cup catch. Finally, some respite for SRH as Arya departs for 36 (13) and PBKS are 66/1 after 4 overs.
WIDE! Full and wide outside off, spraying it beyond the tramline for a wide.
SIX! Slower delivery, bowled full and on off, Priyansh Arya reads it well and tonks it back over the bowler's head and straight into the boundary cushion for a six.
Mistimed! Banged in short and over middle, pace on this time, Singh climbs into the pull but hits it aerially towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
FOUR! Excellent adjustment! Harshal sees the batter coming down the track and bowls a slower bumper. But Prabhsimran Singh halts in his tracks and is able to make the adjustment and ramp it over short third for a boundary.
Short of a length and angled into the body, Singh fails to work it away.
Gets away with it! Starts around the wicket and with a very high full toss outside off, Arya leans ahead and mistimes the lofted shot wide of sweeper cover for just a single.

Bowled shorter and over leg, Priyansh Arya stands tall and pulls it away to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Back of a length, bowled around leg, Arya nudges it off the hips and gets it on the bounce to short fine leg.
FOUR! Oh, that should have been stopped! A low full toss, on middle and leg, clipped away firmly and towards deep mid-wicket. Aniket Verma runs to his right along the fence but is late to put in the dive and the ball goes to the fence.
SIX! This is sensational from the young man! Over the wicket now, bowling it a tad short and outside off, Priyansh Arya stands tall and just hits it flat over covers and the ball travels the distance yet gain for a biggie.
SIX! Priyansh Arya is fearless! Around the wicket, bowled on a hard length around the top of off and middle, so difficult to go after but Arya manages to just smack it back over the bowler's head for a biggie.

Back to over the wicket for the right-hander. On the fuller side, sliding back in from around middle, Singh clips it straight to mid-wicket.

FOUR! Nicely done! Fuller one, sliding into the pads, Arya just tickles it away fine and the ball races away into the fine leg fence.
SIX! Up, up and away! Marginally short, around the hips, Priyansh Arya nonchalantly picks it up and flicks it into the stands over the square leg fence.

FOUR! Make that a hat-trick of fours to end the first over, PBKS are 14/0! Short and a bit wide this time from Shami, Prabhsimran Singh stands tall and slaps the ball away through cover-point for another boundary.
FOUR! Flat-batted! Hard length around the top of off, Prabhsimran Singh takes a step forward and crunches the ball flat and just wide of mid off for another boundary. Not a bad ball, just great intent and execution from Singh.
FOUR! Aggression from Prabhsimran! Good length again, at the stumps, Singh steps out and backs away before swatting it high and over mid off for a boundary.
Good length in and around off, just nibbling away from the right-hander, Singh watchfully pushes it out on the off side.
Wow, what happened there? Ishan Kishan makes a good stop but then fails to find it as it gets camouflaged in the advertising on the field. Pitched up on off, Prabhsimran Singh punches it back past Shami and to the right of mid off. The batters eventually get two runs, but then, a short run is called. So, after all of that, it is just a single.
Up and running right away! Short of a good length, swinging in from around leg, Priyansh Arya tucks it off the hips to deep backward square leg for a single.
Now then, down in Hyderabad, we are all in readiness for Match 27 to get underway, as the two umpires walk out to the middle. Pat Cummins leads his troops out as the Sunrisers Hyderabad spread out to their fielding positions. Priyansh Arya, the centurion from the previous game, is accompanied by Prabhsimran Singh to open for the Punjab Kings. Mohammad Shami has the new ball for SRH and is raring to go. The countdown goes off and here we go...
JUST IN - Up in Lucknow, the home team Lucknow Super Giants have handed Gujarat Titans their second defeat of the season, winning by 6 wickets. It got much closer than expected as GT did snag a few quick wickets in between, but the impact player Ayush Badoni finished well for LSG in the end, with just 3 balls to spare.
The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, says he doesn't mind bowling first as he confidently says they can chase anything. Admits it hasn't been an ideal start for them, but they are training really well. Tells that everyone in the team is in a good headspace. Informs one change as Eshan Malinga comes in for his debut in place of Kamindu Mendis.
The captain of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer says that they will bat first. Adds that they batted first in the last couple of games and they have been able to just go after the bowlers and that's their mindset at the moment. Reckons that they don't have a great record in the Powerplay but need to ensure that it's not there in the back of their mind. Mentions that it is important to stay in the present and the individuals are told to back their instincts. Informs that they are going with the same team.
Impact players nominated by Sunrisers Hyderabad - Abhinav Manohar, Sachin Baby, Jaydev Unadkat, Rahul Chahar and Wiaan Mulder.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Aniket Verma, Pat Cummins (C), Harshal Patel, Mohammad Shami, Zeeshan Ansari, Eshan Malinga (On debut and in for Kamindu Mendis).
Impact players nominated by Punjab Kings - Suryansh Shedge, Praveen Dubey, Yash Thakur, Harpreet Brar and Vyshak Vijaykumar.
Punjab Kings (Unchanged Playing XI) - Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Shreyas Iyer (C), Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.
TOSS UPDATE - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Punjab Kings and Shreyas Iyer elects to BAT first.
PITCH REPORT - Pommie Mbangwa and Michael Clarke are pitchside. Mbangwa says that it is not too hot and the players will be happy about that. About the dimensions, he says it is 63 meters and 69 meters, respectively, at the squares, while the straight hit is 77 meters. About the surface, Clarke joins him and observes no real grass covering and deems it an absolute belter of a track. Reckons that it will play consistently without changing much and also expects it to be a very high-scoring match, with the par score above 230. Also says that the batters will target the short boundaries. He opines it would be ideal to bat first and pile the runs on board in pristine conditions, as dew doesn't create much effect here and the toss doesn't play a huge role either.
Just as we wait for the toss and team updates here in Hyderabad, up in Lucknow, the first game of the day is still in progress between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. GT, batting first, posted a challenging total of 180 on the board, on the back of fifties from Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. In response, LSG have bossed the chase so far, with Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram's respective fifties. While Markram got out a few overs back, Pooran, on his merry way, is unbeaten as LSG require just below a run-a-ball to win in 7 overs remaining and with 8 wickets in hand.
Two teams, with completely stark trajectories, are ready to lock horns. Stacked in the middle of the table, Punjab Kings will play their third away game, so far maintaining an unblemished away record this season. This marks SRH’s fourth home game, where they have lost two and won one. They have batted first on all occasions where their scores dipped from a mammoth 286 to 190, and then to a paltry 152. Languishing at the rock bottom, this match is very crucial for the Orange Army to resurrect their form, before it's too late. They say, there’s no way but only to ascend from rock bottom, and SRH’s dominating record against PBKS will lift their morale, as the Kings have not won against SRH since 2022. Will PBKS break this streak? Stick around for the toss and team updates.
With a revolving door of match-winners, Punjab Kings are stealing the show each game. Captain Shreyas Iyer's masterclass in their opener gave way to Prabhsimran Singh's fireworks, before young gun Priyansh Arya announced himself with a thunderous century against CSK that left jaws dropping. Even with international heavyweights Maxwell and Stoinis underperforming, the Kings have twice breached the 200-run barrier, showcasing their formidable batting arsenal. While pace duo Arshdeep Singh and Lockie Ferguson continue to test batters, spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal finds himself in an uncharacteristic drought, with just a solitary wicket from four outings and three wicketless spells.
After a promising start, the explosive trio of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan has mysteriously lost their scoring touch, with them posting the second-worst average among the team's top-order batters. Once masters of the Powerplay, SRH now hemorrhage wickets during this crucial phase, contributing significantly to their four consecutive defeats. Equally concerning is their bowling unit, which statistically ranks at the bottom with the worst economy rate and highest bowling average in the tournament. While their pace attack boasts considerable international pedigree, their spin department, Adam Zampa aside, lacks the necessary bite to trouble opposition batters.
How the mighty have stumbled! Sunrisers Hyderabad's batting juggernaut that steamrolled opponents last season has taken a dramatic nosedive, their explosive firepower reduced to mere sparks in this campaign. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have flipped the script entirely as their team has found its rhythm like a well-oiled machine. It's almost as if someone switched their batting mojos. This reversal of fortunes proves yet again that in the IPL, past glory counts for little and every season writes its own unpredictable story.
Hello, everyone! Had a long week? Worry not! Your dopamine dose is here again. We are well into the high gear of the Indian Premier League as games come thick and fast. Within the blink of an eye, the tournament has hit its fourth double-header weekend as Match number 27 pits the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting the Punjab Kings in what promises to be a belter of a contest.
... MATCH DAY ...
With IPL 2025 heating up and teams battling fiercely for the top spots, the action now shifts to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, where Sunrisers Hyderabad will lock horns with Punjab Kings in Match 27. Both teams find themselves on contrasting trajectories - Punjab Kings have been in fine form, winning three of their four games, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are struggling, having lost four of their five matches so far. For SRH, this is a crucial game to turn their fortunes around, as another loss could push their campaign into further turmoil. Their aggressive, all-out approach with the bat hasn’t quite worked as planned, leading to collapses that have cost them multiple games. It’s high time their batting unit steps up, with Abhishek Sharma yet to find his rhythm at the top and Travis Head blowing hot and cold. The bowling unit, led by Pat Cummins and Mohammad Shami, has done its job well, with Zeeshan Ansari also making an impact. However, they’ve often had little to defend due to batting failures, something SRH will look to correct in front of their home fans. On the other hand, Punjab Kings have been a revelation this season following a major squad revamp. Their success has been built on teamwork, with different players stepping up when needed. Priyansh Arya’s scintillating century in the previous game against CSK has only strengthened an already formidable batting lineup. Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh and Nehal Wadhera have all chipped in with key contributions, while the team will be eager for Glenn Maxwell to return to his explosive best. In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson and Marco Jansen have kept things tight and delivered when it mattered. Both teams are packed with firepower, but Punjab Kings come into this clash with momentum firmly on their side. However, SRH have a history of turning up in spectacular fashion on their home turf, and they’ll be desperate to snap their losing streak in front of their passionate supporters. Will Punjab continue their dominance, or will Sunrisers bounce back in style? A thrilling encounter awaits!

SIX! Into the stands! Shashank Singh lands it on a back of a length and it is the slower one. Heinrich Klaasen presses on the back foot and waits for the ball to arrive. Nails the pull over deep mid-wicket for a biggie. SRH just need 6 more runs.
Big swing and a miss! An off-cutter, near the tramline on off, on a length, Heinrich Klaasen swings for the hills but connects with thin air.
Even fuller this time, on off, Ishan leans into it and drives it to deep cover for a single.
FOUR! Crunched! Shashank offers width on off, on a length, Ishan reaches out and clobbers it over cover for a boundary.
A bit of reverse swing on this one. A yorker that tails back in, on middle, Heinrich Klaasen digs it out to deep square leg for a single.
FOUR! Smashed! Singh returns to attack and looks to go short. It sits up to be hit and Heinrich Klaasen stands tall and pulls it between deep mid-wicket and long on for a boundary.

On a shortish length, on middle. Ishan goes for the pull, but the ball gets a bit big on him. Hits it to deep square leg for one.
