Commentary
All in readiness for the chase to kick off. A new opening pair for the Super Kings tonight as Rachin Ravindra walks out with the debutant, Shaik Rasheed. Ravi Bishnoi comes in as the impact player for the Super Giants. Mitchell Marsh has been subbed out. Shardul Thakur will kickstart proceedings with the new ball. Shardul to Rasheed with a slip in place. Here we go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, the CSK bowlers have done their job, and now it's up to the batters to chase down the total. On the other hand, LSG have the resources to defend this total, and their performance with the new ball will be crucial. The new ball has been the easiest time to bat and score runs, so how CSK handle that phase will be key. Back in a bit for the chase.
Ravindra Jadeja is in for a chat. He says that the wicket was very good and the ball was not gripping into the surface, so he kept on bowling the right lengths and tried to mix it up, especially with Pant over there, who can play those innovative reverse sweeps. He says he didn’t do anything different and just stuck to his discipline. He adds that the outfield is quick, and LSG's batting lineup is very good, so he wanted to bowl tight lines and keep it simple. He says he might bat higher up the order tonight. Feels that if they stick to playing normal cricket shots, they will chase this total down.
With Rishabh Pant struggling at the other end, LSG was in a tricky situation. However, Pant found the middle of his bat when it mattered, and Abdul Samad supported him with a couple of big strikes of his own to take LSG past 160.
Following those early setbacks, Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant steadied the ship for the Super Giants. The middle overs, however, were controlled by the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad, who kept LSG from gaining any real momentum. Marsh couldn't capitalize on his start, and Ayush Badoni, who had a couple of lucky breaks, also failed to make his innings count. He was initially caught, but it was ruled the third bouncer, and then given out LBW, only for replays to show he had gloved it.
The Lucknow Super Giants will be pleased with how they managed to find some big overs at the death. They scored 57 runs off the last 5 overs to finish with a total of 166. While this is their lowest first-innings score of the season, the surface has also proven to be challenging. Earlier, after opting to bowl first, Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj bowled with discipline and reaped the rewards in the Powerplay.

The ball takes the top edge and goes high up in the air behind. MS Dhoni settles under it and pouches it safely. Pant walks back after a fine 63 off 49 balls, and LSG are 158/6!
OUT! RUN OUT! A superb throw from MS Dhoni! Fuller one but down the leg side, Abdul Samad leaves it alone. Rishabh Pant wants to steal a bye but Samad reacts a bit late. David Miller is the new batter but it will be Pant on strike.

Run out chance...missed! A slower one, full and on off, Rishabh Pant goes through his slog early and gets a top edge. The ball lobs up and falls in front of covers as the batters set off for one. Rahul Tripathi picks it up and has all the time to aim but misses his shy at the bowler's end. Pant gave up on that but survives.
Short of a length but down the leg side, Rishabh Pant leaves it alone. Wided.
PANT GETS TO HIS FIFTY WITH A BANG! A gritty knock from LSG skipper but now he needs to finish well here. Matheesha Pathirana bangs this one into the pitch and around middle. Rishabh Pant gets on top of the bounce but loses his bottom hand. However, he still manages to generate enough power for it to send it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a biggie.
Overpitched and outside off, Rishabh Pant squeezes it through extra covers for a brace.
Commentary
Right then, that is it from this thriller where Chennai Super Kings just edged past Lucknow Super Giants. Next up in the IPL 2025 is a big clash between the Punjab Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders on 15th April, Tuesday. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
MS Dhoni, the victorious skipper of Chennai Super Kings, is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He shares that it's always good to win a game, and a result like this gives a lot of confidence to the entire team. He mentions that it was a tough contest, but he's glad they ended up on the winning side and hopes it brings some momentum going forward. Speaking about the batting, Dhoni tells that they haven’t quite got the starts they’ve wanted as a unit, especially at home. He feels the slower nature of the Chennai wickets could be a reason but points out that they’ve done well in the powerplay when playing away on quicker surfaces. Dhoni also says the bowling unit has been performing better than the batting lately. Mentions that they have made a few changes to include more options for the first six overs, and he believes this attack looks more balanced and gives the captain greater flexibility. Shares that Shaik Rasheed has been batting really well in the nets this year, handling both pacers and spinners with confidence. Adds that it's just the beginning for the young batter, but he clearly has the potential to dominate attacks. Says that he was a bit surprised to get the award, especially with players like Noor, Khaleel, and Kamboj also putting in strong performances.
Presentation Time...
Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, shares that the team was probably 10–15 runs short. He mentions that they kept losing wickets whenever they seemed to build momentum, which made it tough to push on. He also tells that while the pitch was generally good for batting, it did stop a little at times but they still felt they could’ve added at least 10 more runs to the total. Shares that he’s feeling much better with every game and is slowly getting into rhythm, taking it one match at a time. On the bowling front, he says they did consider bringing Ravi Bishnoi on at the death but opted for a different plan. Pant adds that the way the bowlers pulled things back after CSK's start is a big positive to take forward.
Shivam Dube is in for a chat. Shares that losing five games in a row is not what Chennai Super Kings stand for, so this win was especially important for him and the team. Mentions that his plan was to bat till the end and take the team over the line, and he’s happy to have done just that. With wickets falling at the other end, Dube tells that he focused on taking the game deep rather than changing his approach. He says it wasn’t just about mindset, but reading the situation and understanding what the game demanded. He also adds that MS Dhoni took the pressure off him. Looking ahead, Dube says the team will carry the positives from this performance into their next big clash against Mumbai.
Lucknow Super Giants will be a bit disappointed with their overall bowling performance, though credit to them for making a real contest out of it. They were under the pump during the Powerplay, with CSK’s openers going hard, but Ravi Bishnoi brought them back into the game with a brilliant spell that included two vital wickets. Aiden Markram and Digvesh Singh chipped in with some tidy overs to keep the pressure on, but Shardul Thakur had an off day, and the rest of the pace attack couldn’t quite find their rhythm. In the end, that lack of penetration and control proved costly, bringing their winning run to an end.
Earlier in the match, Lucknow Super Giants managed to post their lowest first-inning total of the season, but it was still a competitive one on a tricky surface. Skipper Rishabh Pant showed great grit and determination, anchoring the innings with a well-crafted fifty. He was supported by handy cameos from Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, and Abdul Samad, who kept the scoreboard ticking. The Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers were right on the money, and their fielding finally clicked into gear. Jadeja stood out with a couple of crucial wickets, while Noor, despite going wicketless, bowled a miserly spell that built pressure throughout. Matheesha Pathirana struck twice in the final over, and Khaleel Ahmed, along with Anshul Kamboj, picked up a wicket each to round off a disciplined bowling display.
The Chennai Super Kings' openers laid a solid foundation with a steady 52-run stand, setting the tone early on. Debutant Shaik Rasheed caught the eye with a promising cameo, and Rachin Ravindra looked fluent at the crease too. However, neither could build on their starts and were dismissed at key moments. Rahul Tripathi, despite being given a lifeline, couldn’t make it count. Ravindra Jadeja was promoted up the order and combined his composure with Shivam Dube’s powerful hitting to keep the momentum going. Though a mini-collapse in the middle order gave LSG a glimmer of hope, Dube’s crucial 43 and a fiery finishing burst from MS Dhoni sealed the deal for the visitors.
CSK ARE BACK TO WINNING WAYS! It went down to the wire, but Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni kept their cool to take the side home. After a tough stretch of five consecutive losses, they've finally broken the streak and picked up their much-needed second win of the season.
FOUR! Shivam Dube with the winning runs for CSK! The Super Kings finally manage to end their losing streak! Angling across, full in length, Dube stays leg side of the ball and carves it with an angled bat face. Hits it aerially but wide of cover for a boundary. CSK win by 5 wickets with 3 balls to spare!
Gets the yorker right in, on off, MS Dhoni squeezes it out in front of cover and crosses over.
Begins with a wide yorker, Dube hits it along the ground to deep point for a single.
Who will bowl the last over? It will be Avesh Khan. Can he defend 4 runs here? Also, Lucknow Super Giants have been handed a penalty for a slow over-rate. They can only have four fielders outside the circle.

OUT! APPEAL FOR LBW AND GIVEN! The move to turn to Aiden Markram has worked like a charm for the Super Giants. Slower through the air, a touch fuller in length, Rachin goes for the sweep and misses it. The ball hits the back leg. Massive appeal from the bowler, and the keeper and the umpire raises his finger. Rachin consults his partner and goes for the review. This looks plumb unless Rachin has got some bat on it. Flat line on UltraEdge as the ball passes the bat. The Ball Tracking shows that the ball is pitching in line, the impact is in line and the ball is hitting the off stump. CSK lose the review as well as their second wicket.
Shorter on leg, Rachin rocks back and plays the pull, which lands just short of the fielder at long on. Perhaps the ball was not short enough to play the pull shot. Ayush Badoni almost overruns it but does well to make the stop. Two runs taken.

Samad runs in front from long off to take it, covering a bit of ground and gets to the ball but eventually drops the catch. A single taken.
A touch fuller, just outside off, Rachin rocks back and cuts it to deep point for a single.
FOUR! Powered away! Short and just outside off, Rachin rocks back and flat bats it down the ground, past the bowler. The ball races away to the boundary.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The Chennai Super Kings will be happy with their start. Powerplay struggles have been a recurring issue for them this season, but tonight, on debut, Shaik Rasheed got the chase going, forming a solid partnership with Rachin Ravindra before he was dismissed. However, as the ball loses its hardness, batting could become trickier, although the dew might help the ball slide onto the bat a bit better. Lucknow Super Giants will look to regain control as the field restrictions ease, aiming to squeeze in a couple of quiet overs that could potentially lead to a wicket. It will be spin from both ends as Ravi Bishnoi comes on to bowl after the break.

OUT! LBW! Excellent review and CSK have rocked LSG early here. Slanting into the left-hander from around the wicket, on middle, Pooran plays all around it as he misses the flick. Gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball hits him on the front pad. A confident shout for LBW but turned down. MS Dhoni reckons that this might slide down leg but Anshul Kamboj is convinced and eventually, MSD takes the review. There is no bat involved and the Ball Tracking comes up as three reds with the ball crashing into the leg stump. The in-form Pooran departs for 8 (9) and LSG are now 23/2.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Excellent running catch from Rahul Tripathi in his 100th IPL game! Angling away, on a hard length, on middle, Markram expects the ball to come back into him but this leaves him and kicks up a bit off the deck. Markram closes the bat face and the ball takes the leading edge. Skies it up behind cover and Rahul Tripathi turns around and goes after it. Keeps his eyes on the ball all the way through and takes a safe catch while diving ahead. Manages to cling on even as his elbow hits the turf.
Short and wide on off, Aiden Markram frees his arms and cuts it along the ground to the left of deep point. Rachin Ravindra is quick across the turf in the deep and cuts it off with a dive. Saves two runs for his side, does Rachin.
Corrects the line, on middle, on a hard length, Markram stabs it down the deck off the back foot.

Beaten! On a back of a length, going across the right-hander, Markram gets on his toes to cut it away but the ball does not bounce as much as he expected it to and sneaks under the blade.
Khaleel is right on the money! Lands it on a good length, on middle and leg, Aiden Markram gets right behind the line and solidly defends.
All in readiness! The two umpires walk out to the middle, followed by the Chennai Super Kings players, who spread out to take their respective field positions. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh are the two openers for Lucknow Super Giants. Khaleel Ahmed has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, says he would have bowled first as in Lucknow, the pitch plays on the slower side in the first innings and then starts getting quicker in the 2nd innings. He says they have talked about not giving a team like CSK any window to get into the game and keep them down and try to put in 100 percent. He says they won’t be thinking about the crowd, which is heavily in favour of CSK. Mentions that they want to play good cricket and stick to it. He concludes by informing the only change in their side, which is Mitchell Marsh coming back for Himmat Singh.
The captain of the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni, says that they will bowl first. Adds that there is a possibility of dew later in the evening. Mentions that the wicket tends to play better in the second half, and they are banking on that factor to work in their favour. Shares that he feels blessed to have such unwavering support at every venue and expresses gratitude to the fans for their continued backing. He also acknowledges that batting is an area where they haven’t been consistent, and the players need to go out there and express themselves freely without holding back. Informs that Shaik Rasheed comes in for Devon Conway and Ravichandran Ashwin makes way for Jamie Overton.
Impact Players for Lucknow Super Giants - Ravi Bishnoi, Prince Yadav, Shahbaz Ahamad, Matthew Breetzke and Himmat Singh.
Lucknow Super Giants (Playing XI) - Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh (In for Himmat Singh), Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant (C/WK), David Miller, Abdul Samad, Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Digvesh Singh.
Impact Players for Chennai Super Kings - Shivam Dube, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Sam Curran and Deepak Hooda.
Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI) - Shaik Rasheed (In for Devon Conway), Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, Jamie Overton (In for Ravichandran Ashwin), MS Dhoni (C/WK), Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, Matheesha Pathirana.
TOSS - The coin lands in favour of MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings have elected to BOWL first.
PITCH REPORT - Daren Ganga and Michael Clarke are pitchside. Daren mentions that the game will be played on the centre wicket, which brings equidistant square boundaries of 66 metres and a straight boundary of 73 metres into play. He adds that the pitch is a mix of 70 per cent black soil and 30 per cent red soil. Clarke feels the surface looks decent but might play a bit two-paced. He points out some inconsistency in the pitch, with a patchy covering of grass in certain areas. He believes that bowlers who can vary their pace will be most effective tonight. Feels that the best time to bat will be against the new ball.
CSK, on the other hand, are struggling big time, as their batting order has struggled from the word go. Their highest run scorer for the season is Rachin Ravindra, who has scored just 149 runs in 6 innings, and that pretty much sums up their batting department. Their bowling, though, has been pretty tidy, and they would be hoping that the batters can complement the bowlers and put on a decent show today. Can the Super Kings reinvent themselves with the veteran leader MSD back at the helm, or will the Super Giants continue their inspiring journey? Let’s find out!
LSG have done equally well in their bowling and batting departments as different individuals have stood up in different games and have delivered for the team. They have 4 different Man of the Match award winners in their 4 wins, which speaks volumes about how they have functioned as a team. Their in-form opener, Mitchell Marsh, missed the last game as his daughter was unwell, and LSG would be hoping that the all-rounder will be back for today’s game.
Hello and welcome to match number 30 of the 2025 IPL season, where the super confident Lucknow Super Giants will be locking horns against bottom-placed Chennai Super Kings at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. LSG are sitting pretty in the 4th spot, having won 4 out of their 6 games, whereas CSK are in all sorts of trouble, having lost 5 games in a row.
... MATCH DAY ...
Match 30 of the 2025 Indian Premier League will see the Lucknow Super Giants hosting the Chennai Super Kings at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Both teams have had a contrasting start to the season, as LSG, who were termed as a depleted unit coming into the tournament, have now won 3 games in a row. CSK, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the points table with just one solitary win, which came in their first fixture. LSG started their campaign in a topsy-turvy manner, with just one win in the first three games, but after that, they picked up some good form, winning three games in a row. In the batting department, their top order has done the bulk of the scoring as Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran have scored runs for fun. Pooran, in particular, has been at his destructive best, as he has now scored 5 fifties in 6 games. In their middle and lower order, Ayush Badoni has looked good, as he has provided some good finishes. Rishabh Pant's and David Miller's form remains a bit of a concern for LSG, and they would be hoping to get some runs behind their back. Their bowling department, which seemed to be in trouble with multiple injuries in the camp, has rather gelled up well, as the likes of Shardul Thakur and Digvesh Singh have delivered some consistent impactful performances. Avesh Khan, too, has bowled well in patches. Their lead spinner, Ravi Bishnoi, was amongst the wickets in the last game, which is a positive sign going ahead for LSG. The Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, haven’t had the start they would have liked as they have struggled to put together a decent performance after their first win. Their batting department was already struggling, and Ruturaj’s season-ending injury has further deepened their woes. Their top order of Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway and Rahul Tripathi have failed to give powerful starts upfront. Their middle order seems to be just about doing their job, as Vijay Shankar and Shivam Dube have put on an odd performance here and there. However, their finishers have struggled from the get-go, as Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni have struggled to close out games. Their bowling department has fared better, as Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed have picked up the bulk of the wickets and Matheesha Pathirana, as always, has done a fairly good job in the back end of the innings. However, their major problem has been the Powerplay overs as they still haven’t found an ally for Khaleel to partner with him upfront. In addition to that, their spin twins Ashwin and Jadeja haven’t done anything of note till now and are having a season to forget. So, coming to this fixture, LSG are flying high and would be looking to pile more misery on CSK, whereas CSK are searching for that one match-winning performance to get back on track. The surface at this venue seems to be favoring the batters this season, and the trend is likely to continue. So, can the Dhoni-led CSK stage a comeback win or will the LSG juggernaut roll on? We shall find out together.
